Church hosting holiday event

Library offers database for books
The Charlestown Clark County Public Library has unveiled a new online service, NoveList, to help readers connect with favorite authors or explore different types of fiction works.
NoveList is a database that provides author read-alikes, reviews, annotations and more for more than 135,000 fiction titles. It also includes other content of interest to fiction readers, such as suggestions, discussion and Annotated Book Lists.
For school media specialists and teachers, there are picture book extenders and articles on teaching with fiction. NoveList is available at the library and at home through the library’s Web site, clarkco.lib.in.us.

Kids First auction to be broadcast locally
The Kids First Annual Auction will be broadcast live from the Knights of Columbus Hall in Scottsburg to Scott and Clark counties from 9 a.m. to midnight Nov. 21 on Channel 25, with a preview show at 6 p.m. Nov. 20.
In past years, Kids First has offered a wide variety of items for auction, including a Corvette, toys, computers, furnaces, tools, furniture, collectibles, NASCAR, specialty baskets and hundreds of other items.
This year, more than 1,200 items will be available for the bidding, with proceeds helping needy children and families in conjunction with the Scott County Clearinghouse and schools.
Those interested in placing bids can call a toll-free number or bid online at scottcounty.tv or visit in person and enjoy food and refreshments. Payment can be made by cash, check and credit cards.

Stormwater management workshops offered Tuesday
The Southern Indiana Stormwater Advisory Committee will sponsor two sessions of a municipal employee training workshop focusing on stormwater best management practices for municipal operations from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and again from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Nolan Fieldhouse, 5010 Progress Way, Sellersburg.
The sessions are designed to assist employees and stormwater coordinators with compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Stormwater Permit. It includes training necessary to detect and eliminate inappropriate discharges to stormwater systems and to operate municipal facilities as required by the stormwater permit.
The workshops will address day-to-day municipal activities, including good housekeeping practices, leaf and debris collection, storm-drain cleaning, winter road sale applications and others that impact stormwater quality.

INDOT to publish improvement draft
The Indiana Department of Transportation is seeking public comment on its draft four-year Statewide Transportation Improvement Program, or STIP. The Draft STIP will be available for review starting Monday on INDOT’s Web site, http://indot.IN.gov, and at six regional open houses around the state.
The program is a document required by federal law projecting capital investments involving federal funds and other regionally significant improvements for the next four fiscal years. Funding sources include traditional state and federal tax revenues, and Gov. Mitch Daniels’ Major Moves highway program. Federal funding levels are based upon the current federal surface transportation act, SAFETEA-LU, which has been extended through Dec. 18.
INDOT planners will be available to answer one-on-one questions about the Draft STIP and accept public comments any time during six regional open houses. Written comments may also be submitted through INDOT’s STIP Web site. Open house locations and hours include:

Appeals court hears Covered Bridge case
The Indiana Court of Appeals heard the respective oral arguments on the town of Sellersburg’s effort to annex the Covered Bridge Subdivision and the Willows on Wednesday. Covered Bridge appealed the trial court’s ruling that the town’s annexation preceded the subdivision’s effort to incorporate into an independent town and that, in exchange for sewer service, the residents would agree to not remonstrate against the annexation attempt.
