The Kentuckiana Regional Planning and Development Agency approved a priority list seeking federal funding for one Indiana project, and likely will conduct a study to update the region’s roadway classifications.
An approval set a priority list for Specialized Transportation Capital Assistance Program funds — to buy new vehicles — which are part of a matching federal grant given to local nonprofit organizations.
The requests were ranked with the first preference for a vehicle going to Down Syndrome Support Association of Southern Indiana and totaling $49,000. The local match for the lift-equipped van is $9,800, the same as the second priority listed, going to LifeSpring Inc.
Other organizations on the list were LifeSpan Resources Inc. and New Hope Services Inc. requesting $40,000 for vehicles — New Hope has requested two — with a local match of $8,000.
An update on roadways of Southern Indiana would be part of a revision to the Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Congestion Management Process. The most recent update for Clark, Floyd and Harrison counties was completed in 2006.
“This network is what helps us to determine what information we’re going to collect in order to try to alleviate the congestion on the roadways,” said Lori Kelsey, transportation planner with KIPDA.
