Farmers market canceled Saturday

Jeffersonville Main Street Inc. announced a winter Farmers Market will not be held today. It will resume for the normal hours of 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 21.

The winter market is located inside the gym of First Presbyterian Church, near the corner of Chestnut and Walnut Streets.

Hosparus hosting holiday event

Hosparus — Hospice of Southern Indiana’s Holiday Hearts program will offer Hosparus families, as well as those wishing to donate, a special ceremony to place hearts of remembrance on an evergreen at 7 p.m. Nov. 22 at Clark Memorial Hospital, Jeffersonville.

The community is invited to attend the event and remember someone they love by hanging a heart on the tree. After the ceremony, hearts will remain on the tree at Clark Memorial Hospital and others will be placed on trees at Floyd Memorial and Harrison County hospitals, where they will remain on display throughout the holiday season. Holiday Hearts proceeds benefit local hospice patients and their families.

Gilt Edge serving on Thanksgiving

Gilt Edge Baptist Church, 1713 Green St., Jeffersonville, will sponsor a community Thanksgiving day dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 26 at the church.

Carry-out will be provided to homebound individuals unable to come to the church. For delivery, call 812-283-6395.

Local grower donating trees

Owner Mike Meyer, of Meyer Christmas Trees in Borden, is participating with the Indiana Christmas Tree Growers in sending Christmas trees to the Navy 5th Fleet, stationed in Bahrain, and the Great Lakes Naval Station.

The program is part of the 2009 Trees for Troops, a nationwide program between state Christmas tree organizations, the Christmas Spirit Foundation of the National Christmas Tree Association and FedEx Corp., which collects and delivers more than 17,000 live Christmas trees to troops and their families stateside and overseas.

Volunteers needed for tax preparation

The Southern Indiana Asset Building Coalition is seeking volunteers for the upcoming tax season.

The coalition provides free tax preparation for low-income individuals and families as well as financial education and coaching. Volunteers are asked to commit a minimum of four hours a week from mid-January through April 15, with shifts in four-hour increments.

Hours vary at the different locations, but include openings on weeknights and Saturdays and are by appointment only. Volunteers are required to complete tax training prior to their commitment. No prior tax preparation experience is needed, as workers will be using tax software. Good communication skills and a friendly attitude to help those in need are expected.

Brain injury foundation hosts meeting

The Southern Indiana Traumatic Brain Injury Foundation will host its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in the theater at Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital, 3401 Blackiston Blvd., New Albany.

Dr. Steve Riggert, director of Psychological Services at Southern Indiana Rehab, will be the guest speaker. Questions are welcome.
