A Sellersburg man was sentenced Friday to 20 years in prison and a lifetime supervised release for transporting and possessing child pornography, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
William Travis Brown, 39, was convicted of those charges by a federal jury July 23 before Judge David Frank Hamilton in Indianapolis.
Investigators reportedly discovered more than 1,000 images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of minors after a search at Brown’s rented house in Georgetown. A computer and CDs were seized from the home.
According to federal authorities, Brown used the Internet to chat and trade images with others. Under the federal system, Brown must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence.
The case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The case against Brown was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven D. DeBrota, of the Southern District of Indiana, and trial attorney Bonnie L. Kane, of the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section. It was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Indiana State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
