JHS Theatre presents ‘A Christmas Story’
Jeffersonville High School’s Theatre Department will present Jean Shepherd’s “A Christmas Story,” along with ’40s-style refreshments, entertainment and a silent auction at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3-5, and 2 p.m. Dec. 6 at the school.
Travel back to the 1940s, when the only thing Ralphie wanted to see underneath the Christmas tree was that fantastic Red Ryder BB gun — sure to “put an eye out.” All of the characters and antics from the beloved motion picture set in Indiana will appear on the stage, along with authentic period costuming and an expansive set.
As an added holiday bonus, the audience can step back into the ’40s in the theater lobby during intermission. An old-fashioned Christmas bazaar will come alive with characters in 1940s costumes selling homemade Christmas treats made from classic family recipes dating back to that period.
JHS special-needs students will be baking their famous recipes and selling them in the lobby as well. A real old-fashioned Santa, ready for visits with the little ones, and a 1938 Goldman’s Department Store holiday tableau depicting Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves building toys, will be available for photo opportunities. There also will be a silent auction of old-fashioned treasures and Chamber Choir students in period costumes singing a cappella Christmas Carols under the direction of Leslie Rajchel.
Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens, $10 for adults; and group rate is $5 for 10 or more tickets purchased in advance.
Call 812-282-6601, extensions 15262 or 15260 to reserve tickets.

Group sending letters from Santa
The Retired Senior Volunteer Program, or RSVP, is again offering personalized letters from Santa.
The letters are printed on Santa stationery and are mailed first class in bright red envelopes.
For $5, your child will receive a letter that includes his or her name, the names of two friends, the name of the person who told Santa about the child and the child’s hometown. If you order letters for several children in one household, they will each receive a different letter — with the same stationery and different words — just as if you were sending letters to each member of a family.
For information or application forms, contact RSVP at 812-948-1815 or rsvp@interfaithinc.org. You may also visit the Interfaith Web site, www.interfaithinc.org, to download a form.
The deadline to return the completed forms is Dec. 3.
