Group selecting coats, cans

Advanced Dental Center announced the start of the Coats and Cans Christmas Project benefiting the Center for Lay Ministries in Jeffersonville.

Organizers will be collecting gently used coats and outerwear and canned food to be given to the Center For Lay Ministries food pantry. Collection will start Monday and will continue until Dec. 15. The goal is 50 coats and 500 pounds of canned or nonperishable food to be collected and donated to the center.

The center helps meet unmet basic needs of people in Clark County, giving out about 230,000 pounds of food from its food pantry in response to some 14,000 client visits.

The center’s Christmas Basket program is especially meaningful and relies on the generosity of contributions of canned goods from partners in the community. There is a great need in our community for these items as requests to the center are up more than 35 percent from last year.

People are asked to bring their clean wearable coats and nonperishable food items to the office 1706 Williamsburg Drive, Jeffersonville, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
