Half of Ben and Jerry’s to speak at IUS
Jerry Greenfield, of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream, will be the keynote speaker for the annual Sanders Speaker Series at 6 p.m. on Feb. 21, at the Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center at Indiana University Southeast.
Greenfield and his business partner, Ben Cohen, opened the first Ben and Jerry’s ice cream parlor in 1978. Greenfield will share with the IUS audience how he and Cohen turned one local ice cream shop into a multimillion dollar business. A reception will follow the presentation.

Spanish movie night at the library
The New Albany-Floyd County Library is showing movies in Spanish at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays at the library, 180 W. Spring St. in New Albany.
To promote Spanish literature, these movies are all based on books by Hispanic authors. Some of the movies have subtitles and some do not.
The Feb. 8 movie is “La Lola se va a Los Puertos,” which tells the story of a father and son vying for the love of the same woman — a famous singer also secretly admired by her guitarist.

FMH Auxiliary to hold jewelry sale
The Floyd Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will be sponsoring a special jewelry sale from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 15. The event will be in the Paris Educational Center at the Hospital, 1850 State St.
The sale will be conducted by REG & Company and will feature a free raffle to win a $50 shopping spree. They will have a variety of collections with something for everyone.
The proceeds from the sale will go toward all the many hospital projects of the Auxiliary.

Republican women meeting Thursday
The Clark County Republican Women’s meeting has been changed to 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at Clark County Republican Center, 2946 E. 10th St., Jeffersonville, Unit B-5, (Behind the Bureau of Motor Vehicles)
The meetings are usually the second Tuesday of each month but was changed this month because of Valentine’s Day.

Chili and Brew Bonanza coming up
Jeffersonville Main Street Inc.’s annual Chili and Brew Bonanza is set for 5:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at Kye’s II Jeffersonville.
It’s the seventh year for the event. More than 20 chili recipes, as well as a variety of brews, will be available for sampling. Live music by Kevin Rees, a silent auction, a downtown merchant expo and more is planned.
Library showing part one of miniseries today
In recognition of Black History Month, the Jeffersonville Township Public Library, 211 E. Court Ave., Jeffersonville, will show the television miniseries, “For Love of Liberty: the Story of America’s Black Patriots,” 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 14, and 28, 2012. Released in 2009, it runs 240 minutes and is comprised of three parts:
Part 1: The Revolution through World War II (Tuesday, Feb. 7)
Part 2: World War II through President Obama (Tuesday, Feb. 14)
Part 3: Bonus Material (Tuesday, Feb. 28)
Hosted by actress Halle Berry, “For Love of Liberty” uses letters, diaries, speeches, journalistic accounts, historical text and military records to document and acknowledge the sacrifices and accomplishments of African-American service men and women since the earliest days of the republic.

Wild Turkey group holding annual fundraiser
The National Wild Turkey Federation, River Ridge Longbeards Chapter, annual hunting heritage banquet and fundraiser will begin at 4:30 p.m., Feb. 18, at St. Joseph Hill Catholic Church, 2605 W. St. Joseph Road, Sellersburg.
Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6 p.m. Single tickets are $55; couples ticket, $75 and sponsor ticket, $300. Children 10 and younger are free.
The evening will include a live auction, silent auction and many prizes to be given away, as well as games.
