NEW ALBANY —
A Sellersburg man faces a charge of heroin possession after the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office responded to the New Albany Meijer grocery parking lot on a call of attempted vehicle break-ins early Friday morning.
Jeffrey S. Lee, 23, of 170 Allentown Road in Sellersburg, was charged with possession of heroin — or narcotics, class not provided.
Lee and Timothy N. McCutcheon, 22, of 9104 Virginia Heights in Sellersburg, were located in the Meijer parking lot by deputies about 1:55 a.m.
Sheriff’s Maj. Jeff Topping said through the investigation it was discovered that the pair were allegedly checking the parking lot for unlocked vehicles. On arrival, deputies saw Lee and McCutcheon enter Lee’s car, according to Topping, then exit the car as officers approached.
Topping said the suspects claimed they were in the parking lot looking for their friend’s car.
Subsequently, consent was given to search Lee’s vehicle, where deputies located two bags containing a substance that field tested positive for heroin, Topping said.
He said the amount of heroin discovered in the vehicle was undetermined.
Deputies also found video games in Lee’s vehicle, which deputies suspect to have been stolen from Meijer, Topping said.
Deputies are making attempts to obtain surveillance footage from Meijer, Topping said, to confirm the men had stolen the video games.
McCutcheon was also charged in the incident with theft, a class D felony.
