Community event in Charlestown to combat bullying

Students also will have programs earlier in the day Wednesday

CHARLESTOWN — Lessons learned from the family of a school shooting victim will be shared with students and the community on Wednesday.

Charlestown Middle School will host a Rachel’s Challenge community event from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Charlestown High School cafeteria.

Rachel’s Challenge, based on the writings of Rachel Joy Scott, the first victim of the shooting at Columbine High School in 1999. From 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., students at the middle school will learn about her writings before she died and the impact they had afterward.

The community event in the evening will include those lessons, as well as a  chili supper sponsored by the middle school PTO before the event at a cost of $3-$5 per person.

For more information about the event, contact the middle school at 812-256-6363.
