Bales celebrating 60th, grand reopening
Bales Motor Co., 630 Broadway St., Jeffersonville, is celebrating 60 years of being an active part of the community with a grand reopening event.
Patrons can tour remodeled facilities, including the new truck headquarters. Free food and refreshments will be offered from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, with door prizes given on the hour, other giveaways and festivities.

City Council to meet Monday
The Jeffersonville City Council has called a special meeting at 5:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22 at City Hall, 500 Quartermaster Court.
At the meeting, the council is expected to approve the city’s salary ordinance on its final reading. The salary ordinance must be submitted to the state by Nov. 1 or the city would be forced to revert to the previous year’s salary ordinance. An executive session will follow the regular meeting.
SELLERSBURG
Church hosting homecoming series
Hamburg Church of Christ, 8921 Newberry Road, Sellersburg, is sponsoring a “Homecoming and Homegoing” series Sunday, Oct. 21, with evangelist the Rev. Paul Kitzmiller, the director of Goin’ Fishing Missions.
A pitch-in dinner Sunday will follow the 10:30 a.m. morning service and a report of mission efforts to Ukraine will be given on Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday services will be at 7 p.m. Former members, friends and general public are welcome.

‘Frankenstein’ to be presented
The Drama Studio, St. Genesius Theatre, 128 E Bell Ave., Clarksville, will present “Frankenstein” By Victor Gialanella, from the novel by Mary Shelley, directed by John Campbell Finnegan.
Performance dates are Oct. 25, 26 and 27, at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults and seniors and $10 for students and children.

Piano concert coming Sunday
The Music Department at Indiana University Southeast will present guest artist, pianist, Javier Cendejas at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, in the Richard K. Stem Concert Hall of the Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center on the IU Southeast campus, 4201 Grant Line Road in New Albany. Admission is free.
NARFE group to meet Wednesday
The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association of New Albany, Chapter 1777, will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Tucker’s American Favorites Restaurant, 2442 State St., New Albany.
Lunch may be individually purchased from the menu. No reservations are required. All members, spouses and guests are welcome. Former governor to speak for Yoder
Former Kentucky Gov. Martha Layne Collins, the first female elected to that state’s highest office, will host a rally on behalf of Shelli Yoder, who is running for Congress in Indiana’s 9th District. Former Indiana State Senator Connie Sipes of New Albany will be the mistress of ceremonies.
The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Kye’s, 500 Missouri Ave., Jeffersonville.
The rally will also showcase the slate of Democratic women candidates in Indiana, and several of those candidates will be at the rally, including Senator Vi Simpson (lieutenant governor), Glenda Ritz (superintendent of public instruction), Sandy Blanton (state representative) and Sharon Grabowski (state representative).
Watch local inventors in Madison
Risk It: Indiana is a new competition to highlight and award the ingenuity of local inventors and entrepreneurs in Southern Indiana. Each of the competitors will present their unique invention or concept to a panel of respected business professionals in a heated competition to win over $4,000 in prizes.
The event will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Venture Out Business Center, 975 Industrial Drive, Madison. Included in the competition are Richard Eadens, of Charlestown, Savannah Fischbach, of Clarksville, and Andy Rust, of Elizabeth.
