UPDATE: Man shot in leg at Clarksville motel

Louisville man arrested for 3 class C felonies

CLARKSVILLE — A man was shot Monday night at Pyramid Village Motel on U.S. 31 in Clarksville.

Officers with the Clarksville Police Department and Clark County Sheriff’s Department responded to the motel around 8:40 p.m. on a shooting call and found Brandon Keeling, 28, shot in the right leg. Keeling was taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment.

Officers said Keeling was staying at the motel for an extended period.

Clarksville police reported that during the investigation, it was determined a 911 call was made from a room in the motel by Eric Matthew Preher, 26, of Louisville. After making the call, Preher left the area and made a second call to 911 operators about the shooting, police reported. He later drove back to the motel and turned himself into police around 9 p.m.

The shooting occurred in a motel room occupied by Preher’s girlfriend, who is also Keeling ex-girlfriend, police said.

Officers said Keeling was staying in a separate room of the hotel and went to the woman’s room during an argument between her and Preher, who was there visiting. Police said Keeling and Preher did not know each other prior to the confrontation.

It appears the shot was fired after the two men got into a dispute and Keeling told Preher to leave, but information is still being gathered, police said.

The weapon used to shoot Keeling was a 9-millimeter pistol, which police recovered.

Preher was preliminarily charged with criminal recklessness, battery with a gun and intimidation with a deadly weapon, all class C felonies.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and the charges could be altered before prosecution. Police said Preher was scheduled for surgery Tuesday afternoon. He was not listed in U of L’s records.
