The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Clark and Floyd counties from 7 p.m. today through 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Four to 6 inches of snow are expected to fall locally by midday Tuesday, with higher amounts expected to the north. The weather service states that snow will cover the roadways tonight with temperatures at or below the freezing mark. Slick roads and hazardous driving conditions are expected for the Tuesday-morning commute.
The snow will become light and scattered by midday Tuesday.
Following the storm, a cold front will move through late Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to drop well below freezing, and any wet or slushy roadways will refreeze Tuesday evening.
Wind chill temperatures are expected to be in the single digits Tuesday night with winds around 20 mph. Scattered to numerous snow showers will continue Wednesday with light accumulations likely.
The weather service cautions that people should only travel during the storm in the case of an emergency. If travel is necessary, allow extra time for driving and keep an extra flashlight along with food and water in your vehicle.
