Street closures approved for GeoWoodstock

JEFFERSONVILLE — GeoWoodstock, a gathering of the geocaching community, will be in Jeffersonville on May 10. The Jeffersonville Board of Public Works approved the closure of Southern Indiana Avenue, near the Clark-Floyd Counties Tourism and Convention Bureau building.

Board member Rick Lovan said the group would be setting up some tents on the street, which ends with a cul-de-sac. Geocaching is a type of scavenger hunt in which the participants use a global positioning system, or GPS, receiver to find hidden spots around the world.

MORE PUBLIC WORKS

• The board also approved a motion allowing the Franklin Commons Neighborhood Association to sell hot dogs and hamburgers on the Jeffersonville Overlook during the Great Steamboat Race on May 2. The sale is a fundraiser for the association, which has been allowed in past years. The steamboat race is one of the events leading up to the 138th Kentucky Derby, which is May 5.
