There’s a new place to get a job in Southern Indiana.
At the start of the new year, Goodwill of Southern Indiana opened a Job Connection Center in the Goodwill Store’s Clarksville location.
The center is designed to provide easy access to people who need assistance in finding employment and was funded by $20,000 in grants from Brown-Forman and the Walmart Foundation, according to a press release. It allows job seekers to receive personal assistance with job searches and leads, get advice on resume development, interviewing skills, how to complete applications and networking.
“Goodwill organizations in other states have Job Connection Centers,” said Goodwill of Southern Indiana CEO Candice Barksdale. “We were interested in opening one and wrote grants to Brown-Forman and Walmart to obtain the funding.”
She added that Goodwill Employment Services department employees will staff the Job Connection Center until an individual is hired to staff the center.
The center will provide access to computers for Internet job searches and applications, access to copiers, a fax machine and telephones for those seeking employment.
The center will also have listings of area job openings, referrals to additional community resources and access to assistive technology for individuals with disabilities.
“Goodwill serves people with disabilities and disadvantages,” Barksdale said in an email. “One of the definitions of a disadvantage is being without a job. So ... anyone in need of a job may use the services of the [Job Connection Center].”
All of the center’s services are free.
The Job Connection Center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; is open from noon to 7 p.m. on Wednesday; and is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. The center is located inside the Goodwill Store at 1329 Applegate Lane in Clarksville and can be contacted at 812-207-2296 or jobconnectme.@goodwillsi.org.
