Gun safety class set for Saturday
Clark County Casting and Conservation Cub, 6400 Conservation Drive, Jeffersonville, will sponsor a seminar on gun safety at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the CCCC Club.
Member and nonmembers and their children are invited to attend. There is no charge. All attendees will receive a Class Certification Card. Reservations for the class, which will last for approximately one hour, are not necessary.

Salvation Army Bed & Bread Gala
The Salvation Army Southern Indiana has scheduled its Bed & Bread Gala from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Feb. 8, at the Indiana University Southeast Hoosier Room, 4201 Grant Line Road, New Albany.
The evening will begin with hors d’oeuvres at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. Live music will be provided by Jamey Aebersold and the speaker will be Kevin Harned of WAVE-TV. There will be a silent and live auction.

LSI hosting speaker for breakfast
Leadership Southern Indiana’s Breakfast Series will be from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Feb. 21 at Ivy Tech Community College, 8204, Ind. 311, Sellersburg. The breakfast will be in the Community Room of the Horseshoe Foundation Assembly Center in Ogle Hall.
Indiana Youth Institute President and CEO Bill Stanczykiewicz will share his inspiring and informative message about youth development and academic achievement. He will present a snapshot of how youth are fairing in Southern Indiana communities and insights on IYI’s initiatives to boost high school graduation rates, increase the number of mentoring relationships across Indiana and promote career and college planning for children and parents.

NEW ALBANY
VFW hosting Valentine’s Day dance
The Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars Hobart Beach Post 1693 and the New Albany Optimist Club are hosting a Valentine dance from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the post, 1919 Grant Line Road, New Albany.
Admission is $5 per person. The admission cost includes shacks. Music will be provided by DJ Gene.

IUS presents music/video program
The Music Department at Indiana University Southeast will present Camera Lucida, an interactive video and music project, in “Zen For Cello: A Tribute To Charlotte Moorman and Nam June Paik” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in the Recital Hall of the Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center on the IU Southeast campus, 4201 Grant Line Road in New Albany. Admission is free.

Eat chili and more at local church
Brighter Day Anderson Temple, 1755 E. Eighth St., Jeffersonville, will sponsor an all-you-can-eat chili supper, with various types of chili, desserts, cake auction, music, a chili cook-off and more from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the church.

Reception to honor Judy Smith
The YMCA of Southern Indiana invites the community to a celebration of service for Judy Smith from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 301 Gospel Road, Charlestown. This is an open house so well-wishers can drop in at any time.
Smith will be recognized for her 27 years of service and dedication to the YMCA of Southern Indiana at the Child Development Center [Kids Square] in Charlestown. She has provided a safe, stimulating and, most importantly, caring environment where parents could go to work knowing that their children were in good hands.
The public is invited to attend the celebration.
JK Beads spreading the love
JK Beads will sponsor a Valentine’s Day event, beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Clark County 4-H Center, 9608 Ind. 62, Charlestown. More than 40 vendors will be selling items for Valentine’s Day shopping.
The Charlestown Police Department will be conducting an Ident-A-Kid station. Police, fire and EMS personnel and their vehicles will be on hand emergency vehicles. The first 200 children in attendance will have the opportunity to participate in a craft workshop.
Bridgepoint Elementary School will be serving breakfast to benefit the parent-teacher organization, and Parkview Middle School cheerleaders will be selling candy to help raise money for their squad. Lunch will be provided by Zaxby’s.
