Due to the winter weather, Saturday’s boys’ Hoosier Hills Conference swim meet has been postponed.
The diving will take place Monday and the swimming finals on Tuesday. Both will take place at Madison, as previously scheduled.
Jeffersonville coach Keith Gast said he doesn’t mind the wait.
“When we won our first conference ever six year ago, it was also postponed,” Gast recalled. “We (won) six in a row after that one.”
MID-SOUTHERN CONFERENCE
In a tight team race, Scottsburg edged Corydon Central, Salem and North Harrison to win the Mid-Southern Conference title on Thursday.
Scottsburg’s 278 was 58 points better than Corydon’s 230.
Locally, Charlestown finished fifth with 122 points, while Silver Creek was sixth with 94.
Kyle Jenkins led Charlestown with a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly, a sixth-place in the 100 breaststroke and a third as a member of the 400 freestyle relay team. He was joined by Colt Barker, Austin Swallows and Patrick Hodges on the relay.
Pirate coach Bill Batke said Jenkins — the No. 1 seed in the butterfly — led until the final few yards, but was passed by Scottsburg’s Brandon Jerrell and David Charboir.
“He took the pace out too fast and slowed up with five yards to go,” Batke said of the junior. “He’s a smart swimmer, and he will learn from the experience.”
Andrew Beyl and Nick Spencer were the top finishers for Silver Creek. Beyl was sixth in the 100 freestyle, while Spencer finished sixth in the 100 butterfly.
