IUS to celebrate Final Four appearance
IU Southeast will host a celebration of the Grenadiers’ men’s basketball team’s run to the NAIA Division II Final Four at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20 in the Hoosier Room East on the New Albany campus.
The Grenadiers defeated Valley City State (N.D.), St. Xavier (Ill.) and College of the Ozarks (Mo.) en route to the first Final Four appearance in school history.
Local community leaders will be in attendance to help IU Southeast Chancellor Sandra Patterson-Randles and the rest of the campus recognize and celebrate this historic achievement.
The run to the Final Four capped off a tremendous season for the Grenadiers, who finished the year with a 30-5 overall record. IU Southeast won its sixth straight Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championship and finished with a school-record-tying 30 victories this season.
IU Southeast coach Wiley Brown made his third appearance in a Final Four and his first as a head coach. He made two NCAA Final Fours as a player at the University of Louisville.
Two Grenadier players have been rewarded for their great seasons. Junior guard Cameron Mitchell was named to the NAIA Division II All-America second team, and sophomore guard Jake Simpson was an honorable-mention selection.
Admission is free and the public is invited to help the campus community celebrate this great achievement.
