BEDFORD —
Jeffersonville won five events and showed superior depth in capturing its fourth consecutive Hoosier Hills Conference title at Bedford North Lawrence on Saturday.
Tim “T” Martin won four times, including as a member of two of the three relays, as the Red Devils beat runner-up Floyd Central by 118 points.
Martin won the 50-yard freestyle and the 500 free, which he won in an HHC record 4:46.46. He also teamed with Alec McAtee, Karol Schmuck and Josh Phelps to win the 200 free relay in a record 1:28.78. Martin, Tyler Sariscsany, Zak Griffis and Schmuck combined to win the 400 free relay.
In the day’s first event, the Red Devils won the 200 medley relay with Evan Shive, Lucas Hennegan, Evan Lopez and Phelps. Lopez came back two events later and finished second to Floyd’s Oscar Anderson in the 200 individual medley.
Anderson joined Martin and Bedford’s Jared Allen as winners of two individual championships. Anderson later won the 100 backstroke.
The Highlanders’ other champion was Dylan Nichols in the 1-meter diving competition. Nichols easily beat runner-up Chris Robinson of Seymour with 373.2 points.
New Albany finished seventh. The Bulldogs’ top finisher was Luke Lete, who finished second to Martin in the 50 free, just .11 behind Martin.
In the day’s most exciting event, Lete finished fourth in the 100 butterfly as the defending champion. However, Lete was just .66 behind winner Isaac Walling of Columbus East.
