NEWBURGH —
The Jeffersonville wrestling team posted a 2-3 duals record at the Castle Invitational last Saturday.
The Red Devils defeated the host Knights and Greencastle, while suffering losses to three ranked teams in Jasper, Evansville Mater Dei and Bloomington South. Jeff coach Danny Struck captured his 300th career dual-meet victory with the triumph over Greencastle, where Struck’s coaching career started.
Heavyweight Gavan Jolley-Little was the only Red Devil to post an undefeated record, going 5-0 during the invite. One of his victories was in double overtime against Evansville Mater Dei’s Nathan Wright, who beat Jolley-Little three times last season.
Jeff senior Jasi Coureur recorded a 4-1 mark at 113 pounds. Two Red Devil wrestlers were 3-2 at Castle in senior Oscar DeLeon (132) and junior Gary Gaines (220).
“Although we had three varsity wrestlers sitting out this weekend, we were happy with the way the kids fought and the numbers of kids who got the chance to [wrestle] varsity,” Struck said.
