SELLERSBURG —  

Silver Creek (17-7) racked up victories over Austin (0-20) and Clarksville (13-9) to win the Silver Creek Invitational on Saturday. 

“We played pretty well,” Silver Creek assistant coach Terry Purlee said. “We’re still making a few mistakes that we need to clean up before sectional, but we got two good pitching performances.” 

Silver Creek needed just six innings to blank Austin in the opener, 10-0, before fending off Clarksville for a 7-4 victory in the championship game. 

Casie Toby and Brooke Barnett each went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the tournament-clinching finale. 

Ali Sparkman was 3-for-4 with a double for the Generals, the game’s only extra-base hit. 

Mackenzie Bush took to the circle to down the Generals in the championship game. She struck out four, walked one and allowed three earned runs. 

Hannah Heintzman was 1-1 on the day in the circle for the Generals. In the championship game, she struck out three, walked four, allowed nine hits and five earned runs. 

In the opener, pitcher Audrey Jolissaint powered the Dragons to victory over the Eagles with a no-hitter, and was just a failed strikeout completion away from making it a perfect game. She struck out seven Austin batters in the contest. 

Clarksville reached the championship game by coming back to defeat Henryville, 7-2. The Generals were down 2-0 through six innings, but got to the Hornets for seven runs in the top of the seventh inning. 

Henryville (12-11) won the consolation game over Austin, 10-5. 

Silver Creek hosts Floyd Central on Monday. Clarksville hosts Lanesville on Tuesday. Henryville travels to Charlestown on Wednesday. 

BASEBALL

• Borden drops two at Brownstown: Despite a fine defensive day in which Borden committed no errors in 12 combined innings, it still lost both games of a doubleheader at Brownstown on Saturday. 

“In the first game, they got the timely hit when we didn’t,” Borden coach Brian Agnew said. 

Borden (4-14) lost the first game 4-0, and the second game 11-1 in five innings. 

Borden’s best chance to win was in the early game, where it scattered seven hits. However, Borden hit into two double plays and stranded runners in scoring position. 

“We just didn’t get the big hit to plate them,” Agnew said. “Kyle Kruer was very good on the mound. They’re a very good hitting team, and he just kept them off-balance all day.” 

Kruer struck out three and walked three in six innings of work.

Sam Beckort and Garrett Vick each went 2-for-3 for Borden in the Game 1 loss. 

The hosts were tough outs in the nightcap. After putting up zeros in the first two innings, Brownstown got to the pitcher, Vick, for six runs in the third. 

“They were very patient at the plate,” Agnew said. 

Borden’s sole run came off the bat of Kruer, who hit a solo shot in the second inning of the late game to break up the shutout. 

Ethan Little went 2-for-3, accounting for half of Borden’s four hits. 

Borden travels to Salem on Tuesday. 

• Burnet blasts off on Jennings County: Eric Burnett’s bat was on fire as he led New Albany past Jennings County on Saturday, 18-13. 

Burnett was 3-for-5 with a double, two home runs and seven RBI to lead the Bulldogs on offense. He was also credited with his first pitching win of the season in his first decision. 

Already up 5-3 heading into the top of the sixth, New Albany plastered the hosts for 10 runs in the frame. Jennings County responded with seven runs of its own in the home half, but the comeback effort fell short. 

Also for New Albany, Zach Worrall was 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI, Logan Striegel was 2-for-5 with to RBI and Tucker Marcum was 3-for-4. Jordan Striegel drove in three runs in the contest. 

New Albany travels to Silver Creek on Tuesday. 

• New Albany third at HHC: New Albany took third place in the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament with a 9-3 win over Columbus East at Mount Tabor Field on Friday. 

Josh Rogers got the win, improving to 7-0 on the year. He went four innings, struck out five, walked one and allowed two earned runs. 

Shane Robison went 2-for-3 with three runs driven in, while Zach Worral was 2-for-4 with two RBI. 

Eight different Bulldogs had hits in the contest.
