H.S. ROUNDUP: Jeff boys, girls' soccer open with win

Clarksville volleyball gets first win in three years; New Albany sweeps North Harrison

JEFFERSONVILLE — Freshman Tori Ogden scored three goals and junior Devan Carrier added two goals and two assists as Jeffersonville’s girls’ soccer team opened 2012 with a 5-1 victory over visiting Christian Academy on Monday.

“It was  good start,” Jeff coach Scott Epley said. “The girls plays with phenomenal stamina and smarts.”

Epley praised the entire team after the victory, but he was particularly impressed with Carrier’s outing.

“She played an intelligent game at midfield. She played tremendous defense and, obviously, offensively. She controlled the pace of the game.”

After CAI’s Brittany Albert scored late in the first half to tie the game on a rebound late in the first half, Jeff’s defense shut down the Warrior offense the rest of the way.

“The defense played really hard and held [CAI] at bay for the most part,” Epley said while praising Jessie Riggle and Taylor Davis in particular.
