COLUMBUS — Jeffersonville’s Ashley Gallahar and Shea O’Brien each qualified for next Saturday’s IHSAA State Finals at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis.
Both advanced in individual events from Friday’s Columbus East Regional as the Red Devils finished sixth as a team with 102.3 points, nine points behind champion Columbus North.
Gallahar, the individual all-around champion at the Columbus East Sectional a week ago, will participate in the vault and the bars at state, while O’Brien will be a finalist on the beam.
Gallahar finished tied for fourth on the bars Friday and was sixth in the vault as the top six in each event advanced.
“It’s very exciting,” Jeff coach Julie Straight said of Gallahar’s first trip to the state finals.
Meanwhile, O’Brien, a sophomore, was fifth on the beam.
“Shea getting out was great,” Straight said. “It was her best routine of the season.”
Gallahar finished one spot short of moving on in the all-around, placing seventh. She was 14th on the beam and 20th on the floor.
“Her goal was to (go to state) in the all-around and she finished seventh,” Straight admitted. “Two events didn’t go very well.”
O’Brien finished 15th in the all-around.
