Borden sweeps all-SAC honors

The 2012 all-Southern Athletic Conference team is comprised of all Borden players. The Braves won the outright SAC title for the fifth consecutive season with a 3-0 league record.

Senior Erin Mikel was the all-conference team’s No. 1 singles selection. Mikel also was named the SAC’s most outstanding player.

Senior Allison Rademacher made the all-SAC team at No. 2 singles, while sophomore Abby Ellis was the No. 3 singles pick.

Borden’s No. 1 doubles team of senior Erika Frascella and sophomore Sarah Hurst made the squad along with the Braves’ No. 2 doubles team of juniors Paige Kruer and Morgan Mast.

Borden head coach Ross Shauver earned the SAC Coach of the Year honor for the fifth consecutive year.

Six Grenadiers make all-KIAC squad

Six players from IU Southeast have been selected to the all-Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team.

Those Grenadiers are pitcher Kayla Duke, infielders Kate Toney and Megan Sutherland and outfielders Rachel Mulvey, Allie Alford and Jade Detzer.

Duke has been named the KIAC Pitcher of the Year for the third consecutive season. Alford made the all-conference team for the third straight time, while Toney and Mulvey were selected to the squad for the second year in a row.



Spalding to honor its softball team

Spalding University in Louisville will honor its softball team for winning the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national championship from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 31 at Library Lane Park/Pavilion in Louisville.

Floyd Central graduates Rena Philpot and Katie Phillips and Providence alumnus Katy Flanagan were on the team. In addition, Spalding will honor its baseball team that won the 2012 USCAA national championship.

Four IUS student-athletes named NAIA Scholar-Athletes

Four IU Southeast student-athletes have been named NAIA Scholar-Athletes for the spring sports season.

They are men’s tennis player Evan Biesterveld, women’s tennis player and Floyd Central graduate Kelsey Wisman and softball players Kayla Duke and Anne Fowler.

Hidden Creek Junior Clinic

The Hidden Creek Golf Club Junior Golf Clinic will begin Tuesday, June 12 at the Sellersburg golf course.

Kids ages 9 and under will meet each day of the clinic from 9-10 a.m. Kids ages 10 and older will meet each day from 10:30-11:30 a.m.

The cost will be $50 per player and include four sessions of instruction and a T-shirt.

In addition, this year will feature the all new ”Birdie Ball,” which is a fun, new training system that makes the game even more fun and exciting for kids of all ages. The clinic will be limited to the first 50 entries this year.

Twilight Summer Youth Clinic Series

Twilight Golf Course, 5316 E. Hwy. 62, Jeffersonville, will hold its 2012 Summer Youth Golf Clinic Series for students ages 10 and older this summer.

Longtime golf pro Mary Richardson will teach the basics of golf from the swing to rules and safety at six session clinics. The clinics include swing diagnostics for both beginner and intermediate players.

Clinic Session 1 will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 12-28. Students will meet each day from 9-11 a.m.

Clinic Session 2 will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 10-26, meeting each day from 9-11 a.m.

Cost is $60 for each three-week, six-session clinic. This includes professional instruction and supervised play at Twilight Golf Course at each lesson.

Twilight Friday scrambles

Twilight Golf Course, 5316 E. Hwy. 62, Jeffersonville, is currently holding Friday night scrambles.

The scrambles will start at 6 p.m. each Friday and they will last until October. It is a random draw for a partner and the scramble is a best ball format. Players can qualify for the course’s end of the year scramble.

Clarksville Parks clinic for kids, adults

The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring tennis clinics for both kids and adults this summer.

The kids’ clinic will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from June 11-27 at the Colgate Park tennis courts. The clinic is open to children ages 6-14. Kids ages 6-9 will meet from 6-7 p.m., while ages 10-14 will meet from 7-8 p.m.

Cost is $30 for all six classes. Registration deadline is Friday, June 1.

The adults’ clinic will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 12-28 at the Colgate Park tennis courts. Players will meet each day from 7-8 p.m.
