ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

• Mitchell Meyer (Hanover men’s basketball, New Albany graduate, Jr.) — weekly stats: 17.5 points per game, 14-20 FG, 0-1 3-pt., 7-9 FT, 19 rebounds, six assists; top performance: game-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting, game-high 13 rebounds and two assists in the Panthers’ 74-59 victory on Wednesday at Mount St. Joseph; notes: Meyer is 11 points away from the 1,000-point plateau in his collegiate career. When he reaches that mark, he will be the 33rd player to accomplish that milestone at Hanover, which started playing basketball in 1905; team records: 11-9 overall, 8-4 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.



BORDEN

• Clayton Welbourn (Southern Indiana men’s track, Jr.) — notes: 11th in the distance medley relay at the Indiana Relays last weekend, 11:14.42; 16th in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries, 9.64.



CHARLESTOWN

• Justin Baxtron (Indiana State men’s track, Fr.) — notes: 12th in the 60 dash preliminaries at the Wisconsin Elite Meet last weekend, 7.20; 13th in the 60 dash finals, 7.22; 13th in the 200, 22.97.

• Zach Merschbrock (Franklin men’s basketball, So.) — weekly stats: eight points per game, 6-13 FG, 4-9 FT, 21 rebounds, three assists, three blocks; top performance: 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in the Grizzlies’ 62-59 home win last Saturday; team records: 8-12 overall, 6-5 HCAC.

• Brittney Usowski (IUPUI women’s swimming, Fr.) — top performance: second in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a dual-meet loss last Saturday at Eastern Illinois, 1:50.79; notes: fourth in the 50 freestyle, 27.77; fifth in the 100 freestyle, 1:00; sixth in the 200 medley relay, 2:15.62.



CHRISTIAN ACADEMY OF INDIANA

• Nathan Beckley (Union men’s basketball, Jr.) — notes: Beckley had one steal in the Bulldogs’ 78-69 home victory over Milligan on Monday; team records: 14-11 overall, 8-4 Appalachian Athletic Conference.

• Amanda Moore (St. Joseph’s women’s track, Sr.) — notes: 11th in the 800 in the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational last Saturday, 3:09.84.

• Ryan Adam (Brescia men’s basketball, Fr.) — notes: two points, one rebound and one assist in the Bearcats’ 91-63 loss on Wednesday at IU Southeast; team records: 15-9 overall, 4-3 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

• Abby Baumgartle (DePauw women’s swimming, Fr.) — notes: eighth in the 500 (6:00.19) and 1,000 freestyles (12:16.12) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:58.15) in the last Saturday’s dual-meet loss at the University of Chicago.

• Morgan Baumgartle (Ball State women’s swimming, Fr.) — notes: Baumgartle competed in two events in the Cardinals’ home dual-meet loss to Ohio last Saturday.

• Garrett Blackman (Southern Indiana men’s track, Fr.) — notes: 10th in the distance medley relay at the Indiana Relays last weekend, 10:50.27.

• April Hill (Asbury women’s basketball, Fr.) — notes: fifth in the 200 medley relay in the Eagles’ home dual-meet victory over Transylvania last Friday, 2:09.53.

• Allison Laird (Southern Indiana women’s track, So.) — notes: 16th in the 3,000 at the Indiana Relays last weekend, 10:45.81.

• Lisa Miville (Bellarmine women’s track, So.) — top performance: fifth in the 3,000 in the Engineer Invitational last Saturday in Terre Haute, 11:43.11.

• Janelle Nassim (Florida Atlantic women’s swimming, Jr.) — top performance: fourth in the 100 breaststroke in a double-dual meet against Daytona State Community College and North Florida last Saturday in Daytona Beach, Fla., 1:09.68; notes: fifth in the 200 individual medley, 2:20.09; seventh in the 200 breaststroke, 2:30.95.

• Emily Akalski (Marshall women’s swimming, Fr.) — top performance: fifth in the 200 medley relay in last Friday’s home dual-meet loss to Vanderbilt, 1:56.25; notes: fifth in the 400 free relay, 3:57.15.

• Antonio Ballard (Miami of Ohio men’s basketball, Jr.) — weekly stats: 7.5 points per game, 5-11 FG, 0-5 3-pt., 5-6 FT, 14 rebounds, five assists; top performance: team-high 11 points, shooting 3-of-6 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line, team-high six rebounds and two assists in the RedHawks’ 61-51 home victory over Eastern Michigan last Saturday; team records: 8-13 overall, 5-3 Mid-American Conference.

• Marc Fridley (Mt. St. Joseph wrestling, So.) — notes: Fridley won his 184-pound match by forfeit in the Lions’ 28-24 dual-meet win last Thursday at Manchester.

• Jeremy Kendle (Bellarmine men’s basketball, Jr.) — weekly stats: 17.5 points per game, 14-27 FG, 2-8 3-pt., 5-8 FT, 14 rebounds, five assists; top performance: team-high 18 points on 8-of-18 shooting, game-high eight rebounds and three assists in the Knights’ 73-68 loss last Thursday at Quincy; team records: 14-7 overall, 7-5 Great Lakes Valley Conference.

• Stephanie Cave (Indianapolis women’s track, Fr.) — top performance: fifth in the 5,000 at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational last Saturday, 19:35.79.

• Eric Schulz (Indiana State men’s track, Sr.) — notes: 16th in the 3,000 at the Wisconsin Elite Meet last weekend, 8:49.23.

• Whitney Todd (Limestone women’s basketball, Sr.) — weekly stats: five points, 2-7 FG, 0-3 3-pt., 1-2 FT, 13 rebounds; team records: 11-8 overall, 8-5 Conference Carolinas.

• Andrew Taylor (Indiana men’s swimming, Jeffersonville native, So.) — top performance: second in the 1,000 freestyle in a dual-meet loss last Friday at Louisville, 9:22.05; notes: fourth in the 400 freestyle relay, 3:10.03; fifth in the 500 freestyle, 4:38.87; eighth in the 100 breaststroke, 1:02.47.



SILVER CREEK

• Sarah Hebble (Ball State women’s tennis, So.) — top performance: No. 4 singles victory (6-1, 3-6, 10-8) and No. 2 doubles win (8-4) in the Cardinals’ 7-0 home win over IUPUI on Wednesday; team record: 3-1 overall.
