FOOTBALL: Generals forfeit win over Corydon

The scoreboard said Clarksville was a winner last Friday against Corydon, but the official record books will now say otherwise.

The IHSAA announced Wednesday in a press release that the Generals’ 40-6 victory over the Panthers was forfeited by Clarksville, following the use of an ineligible player.

“There was a miscommunication between the coach and me regarding a transfer that was not yet eligible,” said Clarksville athletic director Troy Mitchell. “I accept responsibility for the error.”

The Generals’ record falls to 2-2 with the now-setback, including a 1-2 mark in Mid-Southern Conference play. The loss puts a dent in Clarksville’s hopes of repeating as MSC champions, as it now falls two games behind front-running Charlestown in the overall standings.

The Generals will travel to Salem this weekend in another MSC contest.

“Everything is cleared up at this point and everyone on our team is now eligible to play,” Mitchell said. “This was just an unfortunate one-time thing that happened.”
