CLARK COUNTY ROUNDUP: Jeff girls' finish third at PRP Classic

McClain, Gholson named to all tourney team

Freshman Jalynn McClain scored 22 points and Shanice Gholson added 10 — helping the Jeffersonville girls’ basketball roll past Bullitt Central in the consolation game of the Winston Pittman Cardinal Dodge Pleasant Ridge Park Classic on Saturday, 71-34.

Both McClain and Gholson were named to the all-tourney team, as Jeff went 3-1 in the event.

After losing to Iroquois in Saturday’s semifinal, Jeff had little problems locking up third place. The Red Devils (10-2) led 14-4 after one quarter and 38-15 at halftime. Nine players scored for Jeff, including a a career-high nine by sophomore Kasey Falkenstein.

The Red Devils will travel to New Washington next Saturday.

In Saturday’s first game, Iroquois held Jeff to 12 points in the second half as the Raiders prevailed 50-30. McClain finished with 12 points and Gholson added 10.



BOYS’ BASKETBALL

• Borden finishes third in Washington County Tourney: Chris Beam scored a game-high 21 points to lead Borden to a 64-56 win over host Pekin Eastern in the consolation game of the Washington County Tournament. Beam nailed three 3-pointers.

Senior Chance Clark added 11 points. Borden head coach Doc Nash lauded the effort of senior Dalton Wagoner, who held Eastern standout Michael Doebler to two points.

“Dalton Wagoner did a fantastic job on Doebler. Also, he did a good job of rebounding the basketball,” said Nash, whose team shot 17-of-32 from the free-throw line. “We need to clean up our free-throw shooting.”

The Braves (5-2) led by as many as 20 points. They will visit Paoli on Friday, Jan. 2.

• Lions roll on road: Visiting Rock Creek Christian Academy outscored New Harmony 37-18 in the second half, as it picked up its second win of the season, 59-37.

The Lions led 22-19 at halftime, but began the third quarter with a 20-0 run to open up third quarter.

Ben Todd had a season-best 17 points and Decorise Major finished with 11 points and five assists, helping the Lions snap a two-game losing skid. Kendrick Dale added 10 for Rock Creek (2-3).

“We blew it open with a nice start to the second half,” said Rock Creek coach Chris Brown. “Ben Todd had a nice game. He struggled a little early in the season, but came up with a big game. Decorise played very well also.”

Rock Creek will play in the Christian Academy of Indiana Holiday Tournament beginning next Saturday.
