On its way into the postseason, Borden found time for one of its biggest victories of the season.
The visiting Braves extended their winning streak to six games and snapped a four-game skid against local rival Salem with a 71-58 win over the Lions.
The win was Borden’s first over Salem since the 2005-06 season finale and also avenged the Braves 53-47 loss to Salem on Dec. 19 in the Washington County Holiday Tournament.
Chris Beam scored 23 points, Chance Clark had 11 and Michael Chester added 10 in the win for Borden, which finished the regular season with nine wins in their final 10 to finish 15-5 on the season.
Beam converted four 3-pointers for Borden — which hit eight attempts from downtown in the triumph.
“We played pretty well,” said Borden head coach Doc Nash. “Defensively I felt like we did the things we needed to do to limit them — they’re a solid ball club.”
The Braves led by just one at 45-44 entering the final period but they 16-of-19 from the foul line in the final eight minutes — outscoring the host 26-14 in the period.
“We converted on our chances at the foul line and we will have to continue that from this point forward to win the games in tournament play,” said Nash.
Borden opens sectional play on Wednesday against Rock Creek Christian at the Class A Henryville Sectional.
• Seymour takes out Silver Creek: Will McCall had 18 points and Jack Eckert added 16 but visiting Silver Creek could not pull out a road win against Seymour in their season finale.
Seymour, playing without top scorer Matt Trimnell in the second half due to a head injury, got an 18-point performance from Brandon Polbito as it sent the Dragons to their seventh loss in their final 10 games of the regular season.
Michael Bradley finished with 11 in the loss for Silver Creek (11-9). The Dragons open the Class 3A Crawford County Sectional on Wednesday against Charlestown.
