CLARK COUNTY ROUNDUP: Rock Creek rallies by Southwestern

Lions come back from 16-point hole

By GREG MENGELT

After an ugly 52-40 loss at Trinity Lutheran on Friday, Rock Creek Christian Academy bounced back for its finest performance of the season in a 59-56 win over Southwestern on Saturday.

“It’s a great comeback,” said Rock Creek coach Chris Brown. “Southwestern is a very good team that was coming off a big win the night before (against New Washington).

“We struggled against their defense early but our young guards really adjusted.”

Shawn Austin led Rock Creek with 17 points. Dontale Mayes and Shaquille Neptune — playing his second game of the season — each had 13 points.

The Lions host 3-3 New Harmony next Saturday.

• Borden wins second straight: Dalton Wagoner had 22 points and Jacob Rich added 15 as Borden won its second straight conference game with a 57-47 home victory over Crothersville.

Brandon Beam added 11 for the Braves (2-3).

• CAI Hutchinson proud of Warriors following 61-44 loss: Christian Academy fell to 0-4 after a 61-44 loss to Paoli on Saturday, but Warrior coach Joshua Hutchison said afterward that he liked the progress his team is making.

“I’m proud of my team for responding against Paoli after a poor showing against West Washington,” Hutchinson said, referring to Friday’s 79-28 loss to the Senators. “It was a huge step of progress.”

Freshman Cody Bachman had 17 points and seven rebounds — both team highs — for CAI. Fellow-freshman Greg Laughlin added 13 points for the Warriors, who host 1-4 South Central next Friday.

Logan Laswell led the Rams, now 3-2, with 29 points.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

• Dragons fall to Corydon: Silver Creek managed just 25 and dropped a Mid-Southern Conference contest, 36-25 to Corydon Central.

It was the first win of the season for the Panthers, who got 12 points from Jenna Keinsley.

Mandi Martin’s 13 points led Silver Creek, which is 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the MSC after the loss.

The Dragons travel to Brownstown Central next Saturday.
