Hornets take SAC opener in OT
Five reach double figures, Henryville tops Lanesville, 73-65

Henryville let a 7-point fourth-quarter cushion get away but the Hornets limited Lanesville to just two points in the extra session as the Hornets prevailed, 73-65.
The win moved Henryville to 4-4 overall and gave the team the early edge in the Southern Athletic Conference with a victory in its first league contest.
“It’s a big win, starting out 1-0 in conference is very important to us,” said Hornet coach Perry Hunter. “We go into a little bit of a break on our schedule now and when you go into a break on a win, it always feels a lot better than coming off a loss.”
Five Hornets scored in double figures, led by Taylor Weeks and Dylan Wolfe — who had 17 points apiece in the victory. Steven Mayfield had 11 and D.J. Carlson and Kyle Robertson each scored 10 for the Hornets. Wolf added 12 rebounds and Mayfield grabbed 10 in the win.
• Cold-shooting costly for New Wash: The host Mustangs made only 3-of-26 attempts from 3-point range as they fell at home to Rising Sun, 52-49.
“Right now the only thing that seems to give us energy is when we’re knocking down shots from outside,” said New Washington coach Jonathan May. “We’ve got to learn that when shots are falling we need to find other ways of scoring like attacking the basket to raise our energy.”
New Washington will play Crothersville and Austin in the CAI Holiday Tournament on Dec. 28.
• CAI’s comeback falls short: Christian Academy of Indiana scored 43 second-half points, but it wasn’t enough in 55-52 loss to South Central on Friday.
The Warriors fell behind 20-9 at the half, then scored 19 in the third quarter and 24 in the final period.
“South Central played a very physical and intense game,” CAI coach Joshua Hutchinson said. “Unfortunately, it took us a while to match their intensity”
Miller McCorkle led the Warriors with 18 points. Cody Bachman added 13 and Chris Carruthers had 10.
The Warriors travel to Clarksville tonight to face the 2-3 Generals.
