Jeffersonville got 20 points apiece from Anthony Adams and Evan Maschmeyer in a 72-54 road win over Evansville Harrison on Saturday.
The victory capped a double-victory weekend in Evansville for Jeff, which improved to 13-4 with the triumph. The Devils beat 72-60 over Evansville Reitz on Friday.
“It was a successful trip,” Jeff coach Tim LaGrange said.
Harrison led 20-15 after the first quarter and 34-33 at the half, before the Devils were able to take control by outscoring the Warriors 24-11 in the third quarter.
“Harrison, in the first half, was more aggressive and a little quicker to the ball,” LaGrange said. “We turned things around in the third quarter. We picked up the defense, and it led to easy baskets.”
Maschmeyer’s 20 was his season high. The junior opened the season on the bench with a high ankle sprain and has just recently reached full strength.
“That was good to see,” LaGrange said of Maschmeyer’s 20-point performance. “He shot the ball well. He had several mid-range jumpers. He got into a little bit of a groove and looked more comfortable. I think it’s probably the best he’s played.”
Adams’ 20 points gave him 46 for the weekend.
“I think any time a (center) scores a lot, he gets some credit and the guys around him get credit,” LaGrange said. “He played well on offense and defense, and his teammates did a great job of getting him the ball.”
Sopohomore Tyrone Williams had nine points and Kegan Clark added eight for the Red Devils, who go to Jennings County for their next game on Thursday.
• Crawford blows out Braves: Host Borden could not find a way to slow down Crawford County’s Alex Baker in a 61-41 setback. Baker scored a game-high 22 points, nailing five 3-pointers.
Senior Dalton Wagoner was the only Brave to score in double figures with 14 points. Six-foot-three junior Jacob Rich poured in seven points.
“We were just taken to town,” said Borden assistant coach Fin Burton, who said the Wolfpack grabbed between 13-14 offensive rebounds.
The Braves (4-9) will visit Medora on Thursday.
• Mustangs fall at Trinity Lutheran: Despite connecting on eight 3-pointers, visiting New Washington lost its sixth consecutive game with a 60-49 loss to Trinity Lutheran.
Junior Devin Freels led the Mustangs (5-11) with a game-high 22 points, making five treys. Classmate Drake Krohn added nine points.
After leading 15-14 at the end of one quarter, New Washington got outscored 27-12 in the middle two periods by the Cougars.
“It was a tough weekend for us,” said New Washington head coach Jonathan May, whose team suffered a 64-61 home loss to Lanesville on Friday. “The kids came out in the second half and got three or four stops in a row. But we did not close out on one of their shooters and made a couple of critical turnovers. We’ve got to capitalize on these runs.”
New Washington will travel to Madison on Thursday.
• Eastern crushes Warriors: Pekin Eastern started each half on a hot streak and blew out visiting Christian Academy of Indiana, 89-51.
The Musketeers outscored the Warriors (2-15) 35-11 in the first quarter. Leading 47-31 at halftime, Eastern outscored CAI 27-8 in the third to extend its lead to 35 points.
Chris Carruthers led the Warriors with 20 points, and teammate Cody Bachman chipped in 11.
CAI will host Shawe Memorial on Thursday.
