JEFFERSONVILLE —
Louisville Eastern scored 26 first quarter points and held off Jeffersonville for a 65-49 victory on Monday.
Led by Madison Raque and Jade Spaulding, who made three 3-pointers apiece, the Eagles (10-3) added 16 points in the second quarter to take a 42-21 lead into intermission.
“Tonight we ran into a buzzsaw,” Jeff coach Matt Pait said. “Eastern shot the ball extremely well in the first quarter and build a lead that was just too much for us to overcome. We had trouble contesting and staying in front of their shooters early, which proved to be the difference in the game.
“[The Eagles] are a very good team and should compete for their district and region this year.”
Jeff outscored Eastern 28-23 in the second half, including an 18-11 finish. The loss was the fourth straight for the Red Devils, who fall to 5-9 with the loss.
“I am proud of the way our girls continued to fight, even though they were down, all the way to the final buzzer,” Pait said. “We have to continue to fight every day in practice and in the rest of our games this year to continue to get better and prepare for the sectional.”
Nycia Ford led a balanced Red Devil attack with 10 points. Haley Vogen finished with eight, Emily Gray seven and Taylor Hines for the Red Devils, who host Jasper on Saturday.
