FLOYDS KNOBS — A Floyd Central offense that has struggled to score all season averaged more than a point per possession Saturday against Class 4A No. 6 Evansville Harrison.

The Highlanders also held the Duncan brothers — Ernie, Stanley and Everett — to 32, well below their combined season average.

However, center De’Niko Scott was able to get to the basket at will to score 19 points to lead the Warriors to a 72-53 win over Floyd.

“We wanted to take the 3 away from them and we did,” explained Floyd coach Randy Gianfagna. “The problem is, Scott had 19 points and they were all layups. We were trying to run them off of the 3-point line and they were getting layups.”

Ernie Duncan added 16 points and Stanley Duncan 14 for 18-1 Harrison. Everett Duncan, who scored 30 against the Highlanders in a 72-66 win last year, managed only two.

“It shows how many weapons they have,” Gianfagna said.

Harrison grabbed a 17-13 lead through one quarter and had a 35-26 lead at the half. However, Floyd turned the ball over on its first three possessions of the third quarter, allowing the Warriors to pull away.

“We were down nine at half, feeling comfortable,” Gianfagna said. “Then we had those turnovers and we were playing catch up the rest of the game.”

Drew Hussung led the Highlanders with 13 points. Jackson Logsdon added 10 and Colton Kimm eight for Floyd (4-15), which goes to Brownstown on Tuesday to face the 17-1 Braves.

• Blackhawks upset No. 5 Borden: Whether it was the early start or just an inexplicable poor performance, Borden coach Doc Nash didn’t have answer’s for his team’s 34-31 loss to Springs Valley on Saturday.

Borden managed just 10 field goals and fell behind 7-2 after the first quarter in just its third loss of the season.

“We just weren’t ready to play,” Nash said.

After tying the game at 14-14 at the half, the Blackhawks pulled away with a 10-4 third quarter.

Borden went 10-for-10 from the free throw line, but managed just nine 2-pointers and a single 3 by Cody Bachman, who led the Braves with 16 points.

“He’s the only one that showed up,” Nash said of Bachman.

Garrett Vick added nine for Borden (14-3). No other Brave scored more than two. Sebastian Baggett’s 17 led Springs Valley (7-10).

The Braves host 13-4 Clarksville on Friday.

• Hayes leads CAI to win over Rebels: Aaron Hayes scored 28 points and 10 rebounds to lead Christian Academy to its second straight win, 67-56 over Southwestern on Saturday.

One game over going over 1,000 points, Hayes helped the Warriors to a 19-11 lead after one quarter and a 34-20 advantage at intermission.

James Martin added 14 points and Aaron Eldridge 10 for CAI, which goes to North Bullitt (13-14) on Thursday.

• Oldenburg shuts down Henryville: Oldenburg Academy held Henryville’s lead scorer Tyler Collins to eight points and defeated the Hornets 42-33 on Saturday.

Luke Wilger scored 14 points for the Twisters, who led 22-14 at the half.

Cody Reister led the Hornets with 10 points, while Bailey Reister and Braiden Vaughn added five for Henryville (0-15), which hosts winless Indianapolis International on Tuesday.
