JEFFERSONVILLE — With nine straight wins, Jeffersonville is one of the hottest teams in Indiana.
On Friday, the Red Devils were at their hottest.
Jeffersonville made nine of its 16 3-point attempts and shot 50 percent from the field in a 100-62 a regular-season finale victory over Anderson Highland at William S. Johnson Arena on Friday.
It was the first time the Red Devils reached the century mark since beating Floyd Central 100-78 on Jan. 16 last season.
“We’re playing well together, and we’re putting up a lot of points,” junior Evan Maschmeyer said. “I think we’re going to be tough to stop in the tournament.”
“Jeffersonville is the best team we’ve played all season,” Anderson Highland coach Jason Delaney said. “We’ve played a lot of top 10 teams, and they were — by far — the best team we’ve played all season. We were boys among men.”
The Red Devils dominated from the start, connecting on 11 of their final 14 shots of the opening period.
Maschmeyer, who missed several games early in the season with an ankle injury, had his best performance of the year with 25 points, seven assists and three steals. He had eight points, three rebounds and two assists and two steals in the first quarter alone, hitting three of his four 3-point attempts.
“I feel like it’s time for me to step up,” Maschmeyer said. “Before the game, Coach (Tim) LaGrange and I talked about my defense. I really tried to come out and play strong defense, and it led to my offense.”
Jeff hit 12-of-19 field goals and led 29-17 at the end of the first period.
The Devils, who had just seven turnovers in the contest, were successful because of their patience, senior Drake Coleman said.
“We want the best shots possible,” Coleman said. “Early in the season, we were settling for 3s and jump shots. Now, it’s about getting the best shot possible.”
The Devils continued to roll in the second period. McDonald’s All-American nominee Kegan Clark, who went scoreless in the first period, had eight points and three rebounds in the second, helping Jeff extend the lead to 54-32 at the half.
Maschmeyer continued his hot play in the third quarter, scoring seven more points, including a 3-point play following a steal.
“(After the injury), it took him a while to get back into the flow,” Coleman said. “He can do it all — shoot, drive and be physical.”
“I feel like I’m getting into a rhythm,” Maschmeyer said.
The Red Devils added 29 more points in the fourth quarter, including seven from A.J. Adams, who finished the contest with 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.
The Devils will face host 10-9 Seymour in Tuesday’s Class 4A Sectional opener.
“It’s better to be playing well at the end of the season than the beginning of the season,” Adams said. “I think we’re looking pretty good for the sectional. I’m looking forward to it.”
