NEW ALBANY —
It was payback time for the IU Southeast women’s basketball team on Wednesday night at Southeast Activities Building.
After losing 71-51 to Grace College on the road on Nov. 3, the host Grenadiers avenged that setback by defeating the Lancers, 68-67.
Senior center Kortney Woods led IU Southeast with 17 points, tying a season-high. Woods shot 7-of-10 from the field and 2-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Two other Grenadiers scored in double figures. Sophomore guard Heather Wheat recorded 14 points, making 6-of-15 field-goal attempts. Wheat also dished out a game-high eight assists and five rebounds as she played the entire 40 minutes.
Teammate Ashmere Woods had 13 points. The senior guard was 4-of-8 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the stripe, while grabbing a team-high six rebounds.
IU Southeast’s Briana Palmer and Danielle Betts each tallied eight points.
Kortney Woods gave the Grenadiers (6-4) a 10-point lead with 6:36 left in regulation by knocking down her lone 3-point attempt of the contest.
Grace (8-4) cut its deficit to 68-67 in the final second on a 3 by Juaneice Jackson, who had a game-high 25 points. But the Lancers could not get the ball back for a last-second shot.
IU Southeast had a solid night defensively. The Grenadiers held Grace to 40 percent shooting (24-of-60) and forced 21 turnovers.
IU Southeast will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts NAIA Division II No. 13 Taylor.
