Indiana University Southeast sophomore guard Heather Wheat was named the Kentucky-Indiana Athletic Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week by KIAC officials in Berea, Ky., on Monday.
This is her second conference Player of the Week honor of the season.
Wheat averaged 23.5 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals as IU Southeast finished the week with a 2-0 record. The sophomore guard shot 50 percent (16-of-32) from the field and from behind the 3-point line (7-of-14).
Wheat led the Grenadiers to a 66-54 win against Berea College with 32 points, five rebounds and five steals. She also made 6-of-9 3-point attempts in the game. Wheat finished the week with 15 points, five rebounds and six assists in a 72-66 win against Kentucky Christian College.
She currently ranks No.5 in NAIA Division II points per game at 20.1 and No. 10 in assists per game at 4.9.
Indiana University Southeast is currently 12-9 overall and 4-5 in KIAC play. The Grenadiers will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Alice Lloyd College.

• Jeff Thompson (Louisville baseball, Floyd Central graduate, Jr.) — top performance: winning pitcher in a starting role in the Cardinals’ 12-4 home victory over Pittsburgh on Friday, seven innings pitched, three runs allowed (all earned), three hits, seven strikeouts, three walks; notes: Thompson became the sixth pitcher in U of L history to earn 10 or more victories in a season on Friday; he is one win away from tying the school record for most victories in a season; Friday’s win clinched the Cardinals a share of the Big East Conference championship; they claimed the outright conference title on Saturday with a 7-4 home triumph over the Panthers; team records: 46-10 overall, 20-4 Big East; Thompson’s record: 10-1. -
