DODD: The Ballad of The Garbage Can Blues

“Let me tell y’all story about Jeff city politics, Please don’t think that they all are really hicks,

Often things just happen, And we all must realize, Rome might be burning before our very eyes.

Smoky residue, Need some political Visine.

The council attorney claimed he hardly ever drank, tied one on overnight, but didn’t get the tank;

No charges filed, the choice they made was rash, Instead of being taken in, they just took in the trash.

Canned response, Tipsy-tipper.

Nobody would believe it, if news was going around, just another rumor spreadin’ all around the town;

Take him home for coffee, there are no legal grounds, but snap snap a photo, Fox 41 had found.

Anonymously appeared, Polaroid Phantom.

A media sensation, this lawyer in a can, Spread it did like a wildfire, all across the land;

Front page headlines, soon the world would say, why would anybody throw a slightly used lawyer away.

Your Honor, I object, sustained-that can was overturned.

When word reached City Hall it angered old Boss Tom, His face got all red, and he exploded like a bomb;

He called the press together, said let’s all meet at 1, When I find the police renegade, I will have his gun.

No badge of honor, Jeff’s next meter maid.

The FOP responded, “Inappropriate” it was indeed, When Boss Tom’s words “I’m Sorry Larry” he decreed;

Now the Mayor had a time bomb, what was he to do, but fear an epidemic, one known as the Blue flu.

Cough cough, Don’t ask, don’t tell.

Political closed door meetings, in the dark are all of us, stick will they with Larry, or throw him under a bus;

The citizenry are laughing, some already say, Things will be a changin’ come next Election Day.

Takin’ out all the trash, A clean sweep.

In the prosecutor’s office, Steve Stewart dripped of sweat, another case decision he hadn’t made public yet;

Politics are changin’, which hand does he play, when every morning’s headline gets wilder every day.

Garbage In, Garbage Out.

So now let’s see a recap, what politics come into play, Will Larry survive the photos, to play another day;

Will Boss Tom and his police force, politically shoot it out, I blame Mr. Embry for setting his garbage out.

Look dear, Dead can walking.

School Board has been silent, City Council’s been discreet, Larry’s resignation leaked out on the street;

The Jeff Good Old Boy’s Club is now closing for repair, pulling up their signs and pulling out their hair.

Well-oiled machinery breakdown, Larry lube job!

Now you know the story, that’s taken place so far, who knows where this will end or exactly where we are;

One thing I would bet on if I only had a dime, In the future days in Jeff, the garbage man will run on time.

Mayoral decree, Landfill Pie.

Y’all come back in November, ya’ hear!

    The critics of keeping Manning suggest he would return to a team struggling to contend. I’m not buying that. The Colts were decimated for a second consecutive year with injuries, particularly on defense. With the top choice in each round, they can quickly reset, as San Francisco and Cincinnati did this year.
