JEFFERSONVILLE —
They sure looked goofy, two grown men dressed as chickens who wanted to let their students know they were proud of their will to give to others.
Scott Endres and Chris Wilt, two eighth grade teachers at River Valley Middle School, celebrated with students who raised $2,749.90 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital — more than twice of the goal set by the school.
Endres and Wilt dressed as chickens and ran to classrooms doing the Chicken Dance after the morning announcements Friday. Endres said the original goal set by the school was $1,300.
He said with more of the student population receiving free and reduced lunch, he wasn’t sure how they’d do, but he was impressed by what they were willing to give.
“I’ve run food drives, fundraisers and stuff for 26 years,” Endres said. “The nice thing is a single kid asked, ‘what do we get for this?’ That’s the first time that’s ever happened.”
He said students in the school’s Make a Difference Club counted up the change and dollar bills donated by all the students. He said he was proud of what they were able to do.

The students will start off the morning by attending the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting, as well as the mayor’s weekly department head meeting. Moore believes that both meetings will give them some insight into the inner workings of city government and a better understanding of how each department works to meet the needs of the community.
