... to another record-setting enrollment figure for Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana’s Sellersburg campus. More than 5,000 students now attend the school off Interstate 65.
I’ve written in this space more than once about what a great value I think Ivy Tech is and what a remarkable transformation the college has undertaken in the past decade or more as far as programs and credit transfers.
It’s showing up big time in the numbers.

... to the service given to all of us by Christopher Shane Wright, who died much too early at age 23 serving the United States in Afghanistan.
Wright — who attended Sacred Heart and New Washington High School before moving to Kentucky prior to joining the service — was described as a selfless soldier by friends and family at a Thursday memorial service.
Also, a thank you to Wright’s family for allowing our reporter and photographer to tell their story — and Christopher’s — in this newspaper.

The Evening News on Friday brought readers details of personal spending by Clerk-Treasurer Peggy Wilder on a credit card issued by Fifth Third Bank to the city of Jeffersonville.
However, we’re still waiting on requested statements for a Republic Bank credit card that, according to a State Board of Accounts audit, was used in a similar manner by Wilder.

VAN HOY: Property tax caps put the squeeze on schools
In November 2010, 72 percent of Hoosiers cast a ballot in favor of adding property tax caps to the Indiana constitution. This came after two separately elected legislatures voted for the same measure.

OUR VIEW: Board needs to retain Daeschner
We realize these are just numbers, but they are the method instituted by the state and federal government to measure a school’s effectiveness. It’s understandable to take issue with how schools and students are measured. That’s not Daeschner’s fault. He is simply helping improve the school system in the required areas.
