... to Jerod Clapp and The Tribune for the awesome coverage of our Roadmarch to Honor Veterans! Thanks so much for covering our kid’s efforts to do something meaningful to pay tribute to those who have sacrificed so much for us!
I was impressed by Mr. Clapp’s willingness to march the entire route with us. He’s welcome to cover our events anytime. God bless and Semper Fidelis!
— Tribune reader Ben Gipe, LtCol USMC (Ret)

... to the state for allowing students and high schools to submit transcripts for college admission online. After signing up for an account, students can now send transcripts to multiple possible college destinations at once. After an initial learning curve, students and school faculty members seem to like the service.
They should, as it’s described as fairly easy and free — and about 140,000 transcripts have been sent out using the service already.

JEERS
... to New Albany City Council President Dan Coffey for his public comments criticizing downtown development in relation to council member Diane McCartin-Benedetti’s recent arrest. Coffey told The Tribune that new business downtown has “been all alcohol establishments.” Sweet Stuff, Rookie’s Cookies, Lancaster’s Cafe, Downtown Diner and Jackson’s Seafood don’t have liquor licenses. And did you oppose the building of a downtown YMCA because you were privy to a suggestion that they would serve margaritas next to the pools? Those are just a few non-alcohol serving new businesses off the top of my head. Way to keep informed, councilman. Also, the last time I checked establishments that do serve alcohol require identification of age and ask patrons to order alcohol. It’s not placed in front of you randomly. While you may not approve of their goods or services, I hope someday you learn to listen and respect all the taxpayers (both personal and professional) that live in your city.

OUR VIEW: Board needs to retain Daeschner
We realize these are just numbers, but they are the method instituted by the state and federal government to measure a school’s effectiveness. It’s understandable to take issue with how schools and students are measured. That’s not Daeschner’s fault. He is simply helping improve the school system in the required areas.
