Movie preview: “The Last Stand”

Rated: R for language and strong bloody violence

Plot: After leaving his LAPD post following a bungled operation, Sheriff Ray Owens has resigned himself to a life of fighting what little crime takes place in a small town on the U.S./Mexico border. After a spectacular escape from an FBI prison convoy, a notorious drug kingpin heads toward Mexico and the border town with a hostage and an army of gang members. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately decides to stand his ground in a daring face-off.
