Student art work on display in Carnegie Center, NA-FC Library

NEW ALBANY — The Carnegie Center for Art and History will host the 40th annual New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School Corp. Secondary Schools Art Show and Competition May 4-19.

The exhibit includes work from students in grades 5-12.

Grades 9-12 will exhibit their art work at the Carnegie Center from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Student work in grades 5-8 will be exhibited at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library during regular library hours.

The awards ceremony and opening reception will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on  May 18, in the auditorium of New Albany High School. This event is free and the public is invited to attend. The Carnegie Center will remain open until 6 p.m. for those who would like to view the exhibit prior to the reception.

Since 1972, the NA-FC Secondary Schools Art Show and Competition has been held each year for students in the visual arts classes. Each teacher juries and submits his or her own students’ work. The approximately 330 pieces submitted are judged by a panel of professional artists and art educators. This is the only art show exclusively for the students of Floyd County and the only opportunity for many of these talented individuals to be in academic competition in the visual arts with their peers.
