Benefit concert will be headlined by local band The Hart Strings

FLOYD COUNTY — The Hart Strings, a Southern Indiana folk rock band, will present a benefit concert on from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Floyd Central High School auditorium, 6575 Old Vincennes Road, in Floyds Knobs.

River City Wreck and the Floyd Central High School Jazz Band will also perform at the concert. Proceeds will benefit the Floyd Central Performing Arts Departments, including choir, band, orchestra and theater. The suggested donation is $5.

The Hart Strings consists of FCHS seniors Gannon Yeaton (violin), Jared Murray (cello) and Ted Hartog (guitar, vocals, kick drum, hi-hat). Inspired by an ongoing “folk revolution,” the Hart Strings formed in the Spring of 2012 and have been playing live shows consistently for the past seven months throughout Southern Indiana.

With a focus on simple melodies, beautiful arrangements and honest lyrics, The Hart Strings capture all walks of life in their foot-stomping, front porch songs. Audiences are let into a world of emotions drawn from the basic truths that are expressed in this band’s songs. Though this band is young, they have figured out just how important it is to know this about music: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

“Music is one thing that connects people, and that feeling of unity is what we strive for every time we play. We want to reach all kinds of people, because everybody has their issues. We just want to let them know that we’ve got them too, and it’ll be okay,” Hartog said.

For more information about the concert, contact Ted Hartog, ted.hartog@gmail.com, or about the band, facebook.com/TheHartStrings.
