Live@5 gone ’til September

Administration says postponement due to heat

NEW ALBANY — The concert series Live@5, initially scheduled to conclude at the end of August, has been postponed until September.

“We will not be holding Live@5 during the month of August, both to allow the extreme heat that we have been experiencing to subside, and to allow families some time to adjust to their new schedules with the return of the school year,” said Mike Hall, head of city operations, in a news release Tuesday. “With the summer months winding down, we at the city also wanted to host some events in the fall for the citizens to enjoy leading up to Harvest Homecoming.”

Since June, the free weekly series has been held on Fridays from 5 to 8 p.m. It took the place of weekly concerts that were held in recent years during the summer at the New Albany Riverfront Amphitheater.

Though the Amphitheater has been made available for private rental, the city has held few events at the facility this year. But Hall said there will be a Labor Day celebration at the Amphitheater on Sept. 1.

Thus, Live@5 will return Sept. 7.

Mayor Jeff Gahan said the weather was the main reason for the postponement of August Live@5 concerts in the news release.

“Live@5 will resume in September to escape the August heat and to coincide with cooler outdoor temperatures in the run up to the Harvest Homecoming Festival,” which is in October, Gahan said.
