NEW ALBANY — A New Albany woman was arrested Sunday for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend in the arm.
Angela Thompson, 38, of the 900 block of Pearl Street in New Albany, was charged with class C felony battery by means of a deadly weapon and with being a habitual offender.
Police were called to an address in the 100 block of Woodland Drive at approximately 10 a.m. to investigate a disturbance, according to a New Albany Police Department news release.
A probable cause affidavit stated that Titus Handley, 34, of Louisville, told police that his girlfriend had approached him with a knife as he exited the shower. According to Handley, Thompson said a female called his cell phone and she was confronting him about cheating on her.
She allegedly stabbed him in his right forearm. Handley told police they continued to argue, and she threw some of his belongings outside.
Police observed a laceration, approximately a quarter of an inch in length, on Handley’s arm. The injury was not reported to be serious, and he was treated by ambulance personnel called to the scene by police.
Thompson was arrested but reportedly denied she stabbed Handley, arguing he arrived at the home with injuries. The couple had been staying at the residence for about two months, although the residence was not in their names, according to court records.
Police had been to the residence at approximately 8:30 a.m. due to yelling at the location, but officers had not seen any wound on Handley.
According to court records, Thompson has a long criminal history in Floyd County that includes at least six battery resulting in bodily injury arrests. She was convicted in October of 2003 for battery resulting in bodily injury, a class C felony, and in 1996 for class D felony residential entry.
She faces two to eight years in prison for the class C felony if convicted along with an enhanced sentence for being a habitual offender.
