FLOYD COUNTY —

A man was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when his 1992 Jeep struck a tree in the 4200 block of Ind. 11 in rural Floyd County.

Mark Willard, 40, was transported to Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services with numerous injuries according to Floyd County Sheriff Darrell Mills. Mills said officers called Stat Flight but due to training, there would have been a long delay. He said it took more than 40 minutes for Georgetown and Lanesville fire departments to cut the man out of the vehicle.

“He had severe injuries. But he was conscious so that is a good sign,” Mills said.

Mills said he believes speed was a factor in the accident.

“It was a huge impact. I believe he was in excess of the speed limit out there. A witness said he heard squealing before he left the roadway,” Mills said.

Mills did say the man was cited for driving with a suspended license.
