NEW ALBANY —
A New Albany couple reported early Wednesday morning that they were the victims of a home-invasion robbery in the 1500 block of East Elm Street.
At about 3:20 a.m., police received a call from a 47-year-old man who said he and his 45-year-old wife were awoken by two men armed with handguns who demanded money from them, according to a New Albany Police Department press release. The man told police that when he refused their demand for money, both he and his wife were “pistol-whipped” by the men.
The husband told police that after one of the men pointed a pistol at the wife’s head and threatened to shoot her, he gave the men an undetermined amount of money and the intruders fled his home.
The couple described their attackers as black men in their 20s, wearing black jackets and black toboggans. Both were reported armed with semi-automatic handguns.
The injuries sustained by the husband did not appear to be serious but the wife was taken to Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services for treatment. Her condition is not known.
The investigation continues by the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
Stolen vehicles recovered
Two vehicles, reported stolen to New Albany police Monday, were recovered shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of a Clarksville apartment complex.
Acting on a tip, Clarksville Police Department officers went to the Spanish Trace apartment complex in the 1400 block of Kilmer Way, where an officer located a 2008 Ford Expedition and a 2008 Dodge Avenger, two of the three vehicles that were reported stolen by the owner of Gotcha Recovery.
Gotcha Recovery is located in the 100 block of East 18th Street in New Albany.
The company’s owner reported that the two recovered vehicles, along with a 2004 Lexus, were stolen from his storage facility over the weekend. Police are still searching for the Lexus.
The recovered vehicles are being processed by the New Albany Police Department’s Crime Scene Investigation unit and detectives are continuing the investigation.
