Kevco Construction in Louisville was awarded the bid to reconstruct the Floyd County Highway Garage.
The bid was awarded Tuesday at a special meeting with the Floyd County Commissioners.
The base bid was $269,000, and was accepted by the commissioners. Twelve companies submitted bids for the job.
The garage was damaged by fire March 14. Not only did the building sustain damage, but vehicles, tools and equipment were destroyed in the blaze.
Since the fire, the county has been using an accessory building near the garage.
The fire on March 14 took about 30 minutes to get under control. No one was hurt in the blaze.
The old garage — located along Old Georgetown Road in Georgetown — suffered quite a bit of structural damage because of the fire. The aluminum walls and the building’s roof were burned along with charring at the shop area.
For the reconstruction, the county will use the same blueprints as the last building with one new change — the materials used for the walls.
“[The new garage] will have the added benefit of masonry walls,” said county planner Don Lopp. “[We hope] to have the project complete in 14 to 16 weeks.”
Bids were taken at last week’s commissioners’ meeting and reviewed prior to Tuesday’s meeting.
