Carnegie Center workshop Feb. 13

The Carnegie Center for Art and History will host its Family Fun Workshop, celebrating Black History Month by making Helping Hands Wreaths, from 10 a.m. to noon, Feb. 13, at the Center, 201 East Spring St., New Albany.

Each participant will receive several different colors of fun foam representative of different races and trace his or her hand onto each color (with assistance from an accompanying adult if necessary). As an added bonus on Feb. 13, Family Fun Workshop participants can meet in the foyer to hear the children’s book, “An Apple for Harriet Tubman” read, and then make apple sun catchers to take home. Families are also invited to experience the exhibit, “Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage: Men and Women of the Underground Railroad.” There will be a free make-and-take craft presented every Saturday in February from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in honor of Black History Month. Registration for the workshop is required and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants should arrive no later than 11:30 a.m. Young artists must be accompanied by an adult and prepared to get creative and messy.

The workshop is free and open to the first 60 participants, suggested ages 2-12. To reserve your child’s place.
