>>SOUTHERN INDIANA — A Charlestown man was arrested for operating while intoxicated and illegal drug possession Saturday evening after a citizen’s complaint.
A New Albany Police Department officer stopped 32-year-old Courtney S. Cowherd, of the 200 block of West Drive, just after 7:30 p.m. A person had called police to report Cowherd was a suspected drunken driver, according to an NAPD news release.
He was preliminarily charged with operating while intoxicated, a class C misdemeanor, and possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony.
During an investigation following the stop, officers found the drug Subutex, a schedule III controlled substance.
Cowherd was also cited for chemical test refusal after he refused to provide a proper sample of body fluids at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.
Cowherd was booked into the Floyd County Jail awaiting an initial hearing.
Woman in Clark jail facing Floyd charges
A Madison woman was arrested on a Floyd County warrant charging her with using forged prescriptions to purchase a controlled substance. A detective from the Indiana State Police Prescription Drug Diversion Section served a warrant Monday on 50-year-old Linda Carol Kendall, of Hanover.
An investigation began after a theft of controlled substance prescriptions from a medical facility in Jefferson County some time after January 2009, according to a news release from Indiana State Police. The stolen scripts were forged and taken to a pharmacy in Floyd County, filled by the pharmacy and allegedly obtained by Kendall.
The woman was served the warrant in the Clark County Jail, where she is being held on drug charges related to the same investigation.
The prescriptions the suspect was obtaining were for a schedule II controlled substance, and the suspect had not been prescribed the medication for a legitimate medical purpose by a licensed practicing Indiana doctor, according to ISP.
Kendall is charged with two counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud of deceit, a class D felony. She faces six months to three years in prison.
New Albany man charged with receiving stolen property
A New Albany man was arrested by police early Sunday morning on a warrant out of Clark County charging him with class D felony receiving stolen property.
Edward Andrew Schuley, 21, of the 1400 block of Locust Street, was taken into custody at 1 a.m. at a home in the 1800 block of Culbertson Avenue, according to an NAPD news release.
He was taken to the Floyd County Jail awaiting transport to Clark County.
