Pack the Bus to collect school supplies
The City of New Albany, Interfaith Community Council, Salvation Army and other area businesses and organizations are collecting school supplies for needy children during its “Pack the Bus” drive from now until Aug. 1.
This community-wide event will meet the needs of more than 3,600 children in grades K-8 who need help to start school with the supplies they need. Supply lists can be found at the website, packthebus.com. Supply lists are specific as to items and grade level and need to be packed into a soft, collapsible backpack that will fit into a locker, with no wheels or handles. Organizers ask that only items and quantities on the list be in the backpack in order to be fair to each recipient and any items purchased in addition to those listed be donated in a bag, separately from the backpack. Drop-off locations are listed below and can also be found on the website: Central Christian Church at 1315 E. Spring St., New Albany, from 9 a.m. to noon Monday-Friday; Culbertson Baptist Church at 4007 Grant Line Road, New Albany; First Harrison Bank locations at 5100 Highway 64, Georgetown, 5609 Williamsburg Station Road, Floyds Knobs, 9849 U.S. 150, Greenville, and at 4303 Charlestown Crossing and 3131 Grant Line Road, New Albany; In Heaven's Eyes Ministry, 129 W. Daisy Lane, New Albany; Interfaith Community Council, 702 E. Market St., New Albany; Northside Christian Church, 4407 Charlestown Road, New Albany, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturdays or 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday; Salvation Army, 2300 Green Valley Road, New Albany; Silver St. UMC, 413 Silver St., New Albany; and at YMCA of Southern Indiana, 33 State St., New Albany. Volunteers are needed for sorting and packing the backpacks and also for distributing the backpacks to the schools.
